#Asus transformer on screen keyboard undock trialThe Exynos 5250 (dual-core Cortex A15 1.7GHz + ARM Mali-T604 GPU) inside the Chromebook 11 is terrible at multitasking but Bay Trial works fine in the same use case. Intel’s Bay Trail silicon in the T100 has no such problem." "I complained about multitasking performance in our recent Chromebook 11 review. That's certainly enough for a lot of folks. It's worse in GPU but better in CPU and it offers x86 compatibility. They actually need to be much much better to overcome the fact that the Samsungs of this world don't want to loose control to Intel. If Intel wants to conquer tablets they need to be BETTER not competitive. But still only competitive with the a7 summarily trounced in the gpu part. Mainly because I can't get my hands on the T100. She still reads on her Kindle (eInk), but doesn't use the iPad as much now.įor me, I'll stay with my ThinkPad for working/doing stuff and iPad for web browsing. It's also perfect for my wife (Word, Excel, Quicken, Web, Solitaire). Her Nexus 7 doesn't get used that much now. She's able to do all her school work on it (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, reading, web browsing) and can use it for light gaming. My take on this computer is that it's just about the perfect computer for my 13 year old daughter in middle school. I'm also curious what computer you're referring to with this comment: "$400 gets you a slim, capable, long-lasting small notebook with better performance and a better display". I'd rather have seen it compared with other X86 laptops or convertibles. #Asus transformer on screen keyboard undock fullYou also have to remember the ASUS T100 comes with a full copy (not a demo) of Office 2013. I consider the iPad or Nexus 7 as very good tablets, but not very good PC's (even with keyboard docks added, which neither come with). #Asus transformer on screen keyboard undock PcI consider this a full blown PC which can also be used as an OK tablet. I'm not sure why you're comparing this to the iPad or Nexus 7 (both of which I also have). Sure, it small, but pretty well done for the size. I'm actually pretty happy with the keyboard. You have to tap the pad and wait a sec for it to come back to life. The biggest problem with the touch pad though is what seems to be a sleep mode after around 10 seconds. #Asus transformer on screen keyboard undock updateYou'll also probably want to disable most of the touch pad gestures as that seems to help with the touch pads behavior (a recent update seems to help as well). I'm not sure why ASUS has this on by default without telling the user. You can change or disable it via the Reader Mode app. The color temp changes you're seeing in certain apps is ASUS's Reader Mode. If something is going up, something else must be going down!. I'm not sure why everyone who looks at the technology world treats it like some kind of zero-sum game. Ancillary devices like smartphones/tablets/chromebooks/etc don't replace anything. I've deployed lots of ChromeBooks and a few tablets over the past year compared to previous years, but the number of traditional PCs has remained the same. It would be great to get some actual measured data on this. Smartphones and tablets are just toys, they are good for those who spend their time on social networks, mostly teenagers. Anyone whose work requires decent computing power obviously needs either a PC or a high-end laptop. ".today most of us spend much more time on tablets (and on our phones) than we do on anything resembling a traditional PC" That's really groundbreaking in my opinion. #Asus transformer on screen keyboard undock windowsAlso, you can get a lot of stuff done even in desktop mode if you use a simple stylus instead of a finger.īut my earlier point is that it does allow you to run the full Windows desktop environment and, with an external monitor and keyboard/mouse, it can really replace your desktop PC or laptop. The Store is getting better everyday and the pace will likely accelerate nicely, I suspect. I find that there are a lot of Metro apps for those tasks if you look around. I want them in the background for when I need them, but they also need equivalents in the windows store so that in tablet mode I can use the tablet version. I would hate to try and handle vuze, foobar2000, chrome, windows explorer, mediacoder or countless other programs with my fingers. Unfortunately the problem is that traditional windows programs don't work well on a tablet. That's without even considering the fact it can run traditional Windows programs. Benchmark numbers seem to suggest the new Atom processor now offers probably the best overall performance and battery life for dollar.
