Yes, you are of course also correct, any grading I list will be of little true value, and I recognise that. I'd hate to get halfway done cataloguing and realise I wasted my time. OPENNUMISMAT DOWNLOAD SOFTWAREThat's why I was asking for thoughts on the software I mentioned, and any others anyone may prefer. I can list them all in Excel entering them manually, then spend hours looking them all up in the various catalogues, however, it would be nice if the software could do some of the heavy lifting. However, if I am to determine if any of the duplicates are worth selling I need to understand what it is I actually have.įor that, I'm hoping a software program will simplify the process. My comment, was more that at this point, I don't WANT to sell them, but I recognise that should I want to expand and diversify the collection it would make sense (what do you do with 30-40 of the same coin?). Yes, I realise there's no markup for sentimentality. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions! But first, I need to better understand what there is in that old chest. There's a large sentimental value for me in the collection (fond memories as a kid of "helping" him), so selling any pieces will be difficult, however, I know that if I want to build it in to something it may be necessary. I'm just now starting to try to figure out what is in there. It has sat mostly unsorted and undisturbed for over twenty years. The collection I'm working with started with my great-grandfather, went to my grandfather, and then to me when he passed. Eventually, I'd like an easier way to see at a glance which is best to keep and which are better to sell (over the entire collection) in order to fund additions to the collection.Ībout Me: I'm about as hobbiest as it gets. For example, 40 give or take (my grandfather was not much in to diversification) 1921 Peace Dollars, in various condition. I want the ability to sort, inventory, and hopefully eventually price dynamically at a glance.Įspecially, since at the moment I have MANY duplicates of specific coins. For me, though, that just isn't really an option. I've only touched on the most superficial functionality so far, and would really rather not invest too much time in to something that isn't going to go the distance.Īs an aside, I know, many people still prefer dead trees over software. I'm also curious if any of you have run in to walls while using it. So, I was wondering if any of you have tried the latest version, and what you think of it. So far, it's not been too bad, and you can't beat the price. If you're not familiar with the software you can find it here: I stumbled on the repository for OpenNumismat, and thought I'd give it a shot. Most looked like they were developed in the 90's by someone who got their first version of FoxPro. I tested many of the commercial offerings, and for the most part they seemed "ok", but not great. Much of which was inherited (isn't take usually the case) and not particularly well organised. I've been trying to select some software to catalogue my collection.
